background: The major surface metalloproteinase Gp63 plays an important role in the initial stages of Leishmania/macrophage interactions and the intracellular survival of the parasite. Leishmania is a protozoan of the genus of trypanosome, and the parasite responsible for the disease leishmaniasis.
