Myosin If (MYO1F), also designated Myosin-Ie, is considered an unconventional Myosin and is expressed in the cochlea. The MYO1F gene encoding for the 1098 amino acid protein maps to chromosome 19p13.3-13.2. Function: Myosins are actin-based motor molecules with ATPase activity. Unconventional myosins serve in intracellular movements. Their highly divergent tails are presumed to bind to membranous compartments, which would be moved relative to actin filaments.
