background: Human SUG1 (also known as p45, Rpt6, Cim3 and PSMC5) is a component of the 19S regulatory subunit of the 26S proteosome complex. It is one of the AAA ATPas found in the 19S regulatory complex that is thought to participate in the unfolding of ubiquitinated proteins in an ATP dependent manner. It has also been shown to directly interact with the nucleotide excision repair protein XPB. Function: The 26S protease is involved in the ATP-dependent degradation of ubiquitinated proteins. The regulatory (or ATPase) complex confers ATP dependency and substrate specificity to the 26S complex. Subunit: Interacts, in vitro, with the thyroid hormone receptor (in a thyroid hormone T3-dependent manner) and with retinoid X receptor (RXR) (By similarity). Interacts with NDC80. Interacts with PAAF1. Subcellular Location: Cytoplasm (Potential). Nucleus (Potential). Similarity: Belongs to the AAA ATPase family.
