Originally named because of its sequence similarity to the Saccharomyces cerevisiae NHP2 (non-histone protein 2), this protein appears to be a highly conserved nuclear protein that is a component of the [U4/U6.U5] tri-snRNP. It binds to the 5' stem-loop of U4 snRNA. Two transcript variants encoding the same protein have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008] Function: Originally named because of its sequence similarity to the Saccharomyces cerevisiae NHP2 (non histone protein 2), this protein appears to be a highly conserved nuclear protein that is a component of the [U4/U6.U5] tri snRNP. It binds to the 5' stem loop of U4 snRNA. Two transcript variants encoding the same protein have been found for this gene. Subunit: Component of the U4/U6-U5 tri-snRNP complex composed of the U4, U6 and U5 snRNAs and at least PRPF3, PRPF4, PRPF6, PRPF8, PRPF31, SNRNP200, TXNL4A, WDR57, SNRNP40, DDX23, CD2BP2, PPIH, NHP2L1, EFTUD2, SART1 and USP39.
