The RIPK5 gene encodes a dual serine/threonine and tyrosine protein kinase that is expressed in multiple tissues. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants have been found, but the biological validity of some variants has not been determined. Function: May induce both caspase-dependent apoptosis and caspase-independent cell death. Subcellular Location: Cytoplasm. Tissue Specificity: Predominantly expressed in skeletal muscle and testis. Weakly expressed in heart, brain, placenta, kidney, pancreas, spleen, thymus, prostate, uterus, small intestine, white blood cells, stomach, spinal cord and adrenal gland. Is widely distributed in the CNS. Also detected in several tumor cell lines. Similarity: Belongs to the protein kinase superfamily. Ser/Thr protein kinase family. Contains 1 protein kinase domain.
